Happy 1st Birthday for The Whitey Stuff

It is a whole one year since the birth of The Whitey Stuff.

Who would have thought that I could keep this up for 11 months before I ran out of things to say?

I am proud to announce a new sponsor for the blog - McLeod's Daughters. Please have a look at this site when you can download past episodes from this iconic series. They only cost $1.95 each (what a great bargain) and for every episode downloaded using the voucher code "tight", I get $2. Woo hoo!

Finally - an end of financial year tax tip - don't forget to get your $1 million dollars into super by tomorrow.

Save money on dish cloths

Just crochet your own! What a great money saving idea.
Now I just need to get the missus to learn how to crochet.

Sydney Harbour Bridge Toll

I heard a wonderful item on the radio this morning about how to avoid the $3.50 toll on the Sydney Habour Bridge.

Apparently some one got half way across and then stopped and put their hazard lights on. They were picked up by the rescue truck after saying they had run out of petrol.

They were towed to a petrol station on the other side of the bridge, waited for the truck to leave and then drove off.

May have been slightly inconvenient to others on the bridge, but for $3.50 well worth a try.

Competition for Les Lees

Looks like I may have to consider shopping somewhere other than Les Lees.

While Les Lees has been the principal supplier of Whitey fashion for many years, there is now competition from Big W. Suits for $50! Sounds like a good bargain compared to the $99 I normally splash out at the great Les.

I will have to investigate further to see if the shirt, tie, belt and shoes are worth an additional $50.

All rugged up and no place to go

Now this is what I call a quality rug.
If you are going to spend money on haircare then it is worthwhile shelling out the extra few dollars to get the rug from the top shelf.
There are some areas that you can't be as frugal as you would like.

Time to get the crockpot out again

Now that it's getting cold I have been having great fun with my crockpot.

Here is a great recipe for Crockpot Porridge
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 T. butter, melted
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • ½ t. cinnamon
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup finely chopped apple
  • ½ cup raisins and/or dates
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or almonds

Grease or spray the inside of the crockpot. Put ingredients inside and mix well. Cover and turn on low heat. Cook overnight or 8-9 hours. Stir before serving. Makes 4 cups.

I tend to save money by leaving out everything but the milk and oats.
